About Sugar Cane

Sugar Cane was established in 1975 as the domestic brand of Toyo Enterprise, a Tokyo company founded in 1965 by Susumu Kobayashi to make clothing for U.S. bases in Japan. After the Vietnam War, Toyo turned to the Japanese market under a name given by a U.S. officer stationed at one of the bases. The brand makes jeans and workwear in classic American styles, and some of its denim blends sugar cane fiber with cotton for a rough texture. It is known for raw selvedge jeans such as its 1947 and 1966 models.
