About Kapital

Founded in 1984 in Kojima, Okayama, Kapital began when Toshikiyo Hirata, a former karate instructor who came to love vintage American jeans while living in the United States, opened the Capital Ltd. denim factory along with a vintage clothing store. His son Kiro Hirata joined in 2002, when the brand’s current style took shape. Kapital started with denim alone and grew into a full range of apparel and accessories. It is known for distressed, structurally complex designs, sashiko stitching, and its revival of boro, a technique of layering fabrics joined with decorative seams.
