About Soundman
Soundman was founded in 1999 by designer Chihiro Imai, who launched its first collection for spring/summer 2000 after managing New Republic Japan, and the label is based in Tokyo. Imai reworks twentieth-century British and American tailoring, workwear, military, and sportswear, drawing on his own archive of vintage garments, catalogues, and photo books. Its garments are cut and sewn in Japan in sashiko, denim, and other specialist cloths, following the brand’s motto of “stylish low-tech clothes.”
